The foundation of the iNexx platform is Medicity’s patented Java-based Agent-Grid technology. The Grid’s distributed, intelligent software agents create a platform that enables providers across a community to electronically and securely exchange health information to improve care collaboration and coordination. Our patented Grid technology forms a secure peer-to-peer network to distribute and exchange health information – including orders, results, transcribed reports, problems, medications, allergies and demographic data – across acute and ambulatory care settings. This unique Grid approach keeps patients at the center of the universe, with the care team collaborating around them in a coherent manner.
iNexx takes the Grid to the next level, organically creating a Virtual Care Team Record (ViCTR) as a by-product of everyday provider workflow. The technical concept of ViCTR - a linked patient object – is important as it is built into the core of the iNexx client-cloud architecture. This network-based way of storing and sharing information enablesentities across a community to manage patient data in a private, social network consisting of the patient, primary care provider, specialists, hospitals, payers, and others focused on care delivery. The object collects and distributes information across the care team to ensure that everyone has a coherent view of the patient and understands the patient’s health status. iNexx is the foundation of the our Health 4.0 platform, bringing the best of content, community, commerce and coherence together as never before.
The iNexx Health 4.0 platform also becomes a natural means of exchanging information between care team members (orders, referrals, clinical summaries, etc.). It is connected to local systems, to external clinical and financial networks, and to services that standardize, format, store, and connect the platform to a vast amount of resources.
The patient can also be an active participant in the Health 4.0 network. They can download a distributed client onto their home PC or mobile device, such as an iPhone, that connects to local monitoring equipment and allows them to update the care team. The object captures local data and automatically sends it to the monitoring center or providers managing the care of the patient. Because of the object model, the patient information is natively incorporated into the EHR. The concept of a patient (or their proxy) actively participating in the data model of a coherent, Health 4.0 platform may have revolutionary impact on HIEs, EHRs, PHRs, and other markets by “tying it all together."
Leveraging the technologies that underlie the client-cloud model, along with EHR modules to achieve meaningful use and converged clinical and financial networks, it is possible to bring a new type of Health 4.0 EHR to market at a price point well below most current EHR models – making it a potentially “disruptive innovation” as defined by Professor Clayton Christensen at Harvard (who coined the term as “an innovation that allows a whole new population of consumers access to a product or service that was historically only accessible to consumers with a lot of money or a lot of skill”).
Perhaps the biggest impact of the iNexx Health 4.0 platform is on software development. Until recently, application developers had to integrate their solutions into a complex world of disparate systems and standards. Much of the cost of building and deploying healthcare applications is not due to the application itself, but rather in making the application function in a complex healthcare ecosystem. iNexx is an open platform for modular app development. With iNexx, apps are added to the platform and configured by the user to match their workflow and content requirements. All iNexx applications are made available to users from an App Store built into the iNexx platform, similar to the iPhone App store that consumers have become very familiar and is widely accepted. A provider in their practice can download individual apps that work together as a composite application to solve specific practice needs. With a modular approach, providers can download certified EHR modules to achieve meaningful use at a much lower price point than a full EHR while benefitting from Medicity’s inherent HIE capabilities based on the Novo Grid.
Medicity is actively working with numerous application development partners to develop the iNexx SDKs and APIs that will allow health systems, vendors and technology entrepreneurs to write applications to the platform and expose the apps to the largest ecosystem of connected providers – nationwide.
